Community Health & Wellbeing

Limerick Sports Partnership Community Health & Sport Programmes aim to improve the quality of life in local rural and urban communities through increased participation in sport and physical activity, ultimately leading to improved health and well-being.

Limerick Sports Partnership ensures local ownership of the community sport project by maximising opportunities for local groups and agencies to have a greater say in the planning, implementation and evaluation process.

Park Run Comes to Limerick

In 2016, parkrun was launched on the campus of University of Limerick. The route begins at UL Boathouse and continues on part of the river bank and loops back to the Boathouse. parkrun involves volunteer-led, free for all 5km runs and has taken both Limerick and the world by storm. These runs take place every Saturday at 9:30am and are free of charge. You must however register online and from then on it’s you against the clock! Chipped timing helps motivate you and increase fitness levels or if you wish just take part in the social aspect of the run as all routes are looped. To register online visit http://www.parkrun.ie/limerick/

Following the success of the Limerick parkrun, it was then decided to create a route for County participants. A route in the Demesne in Newcastle West was mapped out and was launched in April 2016. Similar to the route in UL, registration online at parkrun.ie must take place before attending each timed event. To register visit http://www.parkrun.ie/newcastlewest/
